Located right beside our family home and cidery, our sugarbush and sugar shack are definitely the centre of attention at this time of year! Maple sap marks the first harvest of the year on our small family farm. Val and Brent, farmer-owners of Heartwood Farm & Cidery, have been sharing the magic of maple syrup season with friends and family for years. Heartwood’s small-scale maple syrup operation combines modern techniques of sap collection and processing with the charm of a small, wood-fired, open-air sugar shack, and the homespun delights of personal stories shared by the maple syrup team.

We are offering two different Sugarbush experiences this year.  Both include a warm welcome "behind the scenes" in our sugarbush, age-appropriate learning that engages all of the senses, and lots of TASTING including the season's signature "sweet maple tea" and all the stages from sap to syrup :

Secrets of the Sugarbush -- a 90-minute, intimate immersion into the art and science of sap collection and maple syrup-making. Although children are welcome, this one is geared at engaged adults, with lots of opportunity for in-depth learning and discussion about all facets of our maple syrup operation. Offered on weekends throughout the maple sap season.

Family Sugarbush and Farmyard Adventure -- offered during March Break and throughout the season, geared at school-age kids (accompanied by an adult), this 90-minute outdoor experience includes a guided romp through the sugarbush, time for free exploring and a farmyard visit to interact with our pigs, chickens, sheep, llamas, cows and horses. This is for the kid in ALL of us!

No dogs please (farm animals find even the cutest ones stressful!)

Come prepared for mud season!
